MaDigiPaie: A Historic Step for Digital Integration in Central Africa

On December 9, 2025, Libreville hosted a major event for the sub-region: the official launch of the MaDigiPaie program by the Governor of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) and President of the Central African Interbank Monetary Group (GIMAC). This initiative, hailed as a “historic step,” marks the collective will of states, regional institutions, and private stakeholders to build a modern, inclusive, and interconnected economy. The ceremony brought together members of the Gabonese government, the President of the Federation of Gabonese Enterprises, as well as representatives from regional and international institutions.

An Innovation Serving Citizens and Financial Inclusion

At the heart of MaDigiPaie is the GIMACPAY QR Code, a simple, fast, and secure solution that allows citizens to pay for their purchases or administrative fees by scanning a code with their Mobile Money application, regardless of the operator. This innovation promotes interoperability between the payment systems of CEMAC countries and helps reduce reliance on cash. Over 1,000 QR Codes have already been deployed among merchants and service providers, and deployment continues throughout the territory, paving the way for more transparent and traceable transactions.

Towards a Sustainable Transformation of Payments in Central Africa

In a global context of accelerated digitalization, MaDigiPaie provides a concrete response to the challenges of financial inclusion, securing flows, and combating the informal economy. The Governor of BEAC, Yvon Sana Bangui, expressed his wish that this initiative be the starting point for a profound and lasting transformation of payment systems in the sub-region. With MaDigiPaie, Central Africa takes a decisive step towards a digital, transparent, and innovation-oriented economy, serving citizens and development.
